Set the insulation goal for the wall
Start with the reason for the work: a cold room, an exposed wall during refurbishment or a specified thermal upgrade. Those descriptions help frame the project, but they do not diagnose condensation or damp. The proposed lining should follow an understanding of the wall and its condition.
Assess the complete wall and moisture conditions
Construction, existing coatings, moisture and ventilation considerations affect suitability. The insulation system should be designed for the building rather than chosen only by thickness or advertised product figures. Older fabric may need specialist advice before an internal lining is changed.

Plan junctions, reveals and room depth
Reveals and the junctions with floors, ceilings and adjoining walls need attention alongside the main wall area. The added depth also affects sockets, skirtings and room space. Include these details when comparing scopes, because treating only the central face leaves important decisions unanswered.
Agree board fixing and finishing
Fixing, sealing, finishing and any service changes should be coordinated within the specified system. A direct-bonded or supported arrangement must meet the relevant requirements; do not assume a method used for ordinary board is automatically suitable for an insulated product.
Quote against the agreed insulation design
Ask the quote to identify the proposed system, preparation, detailed junctions and final finish. Clarify who is responsible for design and any necessary approvals. A complete specification gives you a better basis for comparison than an insulation-board name without the surrounding work.
PRACTICAL SERVICE DETAILS
Common questions
Is insulated plasterboard suitable for every wall?
No. Construction and moisture behaviour need consideration, especially with older walls. Suitability should be established for the building and proposed system.
How is thickness selected?
It follows the design requirements and product system, with space and junctions considered too. There is no single thickness that suits every room or wall.
What happens around windows and sockets?
Their positions and reveals need detailing around the new wall depth. Agree the required service alterations and finishing before installation.
Will it solve a condensation problem on its own?
No. Condensation can involve several factors. Identify the cause and design the improvement appropriately rather than treating the board as a standalone remedy.
