Match the finish to the business premises
An office room change, a shop refresh and a restaurant refurbishment have different priorities. Presentation, privacy, cleaning access and the surrounding fit-out can influence the brief. Describe the premises and how each area is used instead of relying only on a floor plan.
Define the commercial plastering areas
Separate repairs to existing surfaces from full refinishing and new partitions. Include openings, columns, counters or fixed features that affect access and edges. A clear scope also identifies which work is handled by the fit-out team and which belongs in the plastering package.
Plan access around business operations
Working areas may need separation from staff, customers or stock. Discuss phasing, access times and protection without assuming out-of-hours working is available. A proposed programme should be agreed around the premises and the practical requirements of the work.
Include specified performance requirements
Where partitions have acoustic or fire requirements, use a defined system and the responsible designer's specification. A smooth plaster finish does not establish those performance characteristics. Doors, junctions and service openings need coordination with the relevant parts of the refurbishment.
Prepare a consistent refurbishment scope
Provide drawings, area schedules and finish requirements, together with any access restrictions. State whether supply, preparation, protection and waste are included. Agree inspection and handover expectations so the newly finished surfaces are ready for the next stage of the fit-out.
PRACTICAL SERVICE DETAILS
Common questions
Can refurbishment areas be priced separately?
Yes. Identify boundaries and shared preparation or access costs so separate area prices still describe a workable project.
What information should a fit-out contractor provide?
Drawings, surface specifications, dimensions, performance requirements and a sequence of work help define the package. Include the interfaces with other trades.
Can work be considered around trading hours?
Discuss the constraints when requesting a quote. Any working hours or phasing arrangements need agreement; they should not be assumed available.
Are partition changes part of the plastering scope?
They can be included when explicitly specified. Layout, structural and performance requirements must be resolved by the appropriate people before installation.
